The integer 13 traces a long history of deceit and poor luck – Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus after the last supper, the dreaded friday where the knights templar were decreed heathens and subsequently hunted and killed, the viking myth of the 13th god of the norse heaven Asgard, Loki, murdering Balder and eventually being the 13th guest at his funeral. But this conception is going to change radically with the arrival of Tartelet 13. To have four artists and three tracks, two duos and two individuals putting out three excellent house tracks on one 12” is just lucky for everyone – dancers, listeners, and djs.
The opening track is Chris Lattner’s remix of Tahloula’s ”We Play House” – a modern yet timeless house-cut with organ stabs and sexy vocals, all dipped and colored in a true Lattner-groove.
Emil & Chesper follow up with a radiant, heady track with robotic synthlines and dark pads. Vocal snippets and subtle changes keep the mood intact while the drums beat on relentlessly. This truly is ”The Nigerian Hustle” incarnate.
To top off the good fortune is James Braun & Ubebe’s “Neotony” – A percussion-oriented tech-house track reminiscent of Chicago, where banging toms and vintage 808 claps all merge together to form a shining synergy, while blue chords and floating strings engulfs the listener.
